51社区 Area Health Education Center (AHEC)
Established in 2019 and housed in the University of Nebraska at 51社区 Health Careers Resource Center, the 51社区 AHEC鈥擭ebraska鈥檚 only urban AHEC鈥攚orks with folks at every stage of training in healthcare professions, from high school, college, and professional students to professionals currently working in healthcare.
The 51社区 Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is housed at UNO and serves Douglas and Sarpy County. 51社区 AHEC is part of the Nebraska AHEC Program, which works statewide through regional centers to connect students to health careers, health professionals to communities, and communities to better health. AHECs are created to aid health career training programs and communities in recruiting and training health care professionals to serve in rural and underserved areas, in order to meet the state’s health and health workforce needs.

Pre-Health Symposium
The Pre-Health Symposium, hosted by UNO's Health Careers Resource Center in partnership with 51社区 AHEC, is the premier event for high school and college students to engage with healthcare, human services, and STEM based careers and programs.

UNO's Pre-Health Professionals Club
The 51社区 AHEC collaborates with UNO's Pre-Health Professionals Club. This is a great opportunity for UNO Pre-Health students interested in a career in healthcare. The purpose of the UNO Pre-Health Professionals Club aims to help students successfully explore and enter the health care workforce. The club's goals include providing opportunities for career exploration, creating a sense of community among members, facilitating professional development, promoting academic excellence, and engaging with the community.

»Pre-Health Shadowing Guide
51社区 AHEC knows that finding health-related job shadowing opportunities can be difficult so we curated a short guide called “Job Shadowing 101” to help. Within this handbook, we outline common rules and expectations one should foresee, a list of locations that offer programs and opportunities to the general public, and a list of helpful tips to help make the most out of your shadowing experiences. We hope that this resource can help job showing feel less daunting and make the process easier for those in need! Take a look below!
