Sports Medicine and Biomechanics Laboratory
The Sports Medicine and Biomechanics Lab is home to our nationally-recognized Pitching Lab. This nearly 3,000 ft2 lab features two motion analysis spaces 14 high speed Qualisys cameras with 3 custom integrated Accupower force plates and an 8 camera Optitrack markerless camera system with 8 Optima force plates.
The Sports Medicine and Biomechanics Lab is capable of creating comprehensive clinical and biomechanics reports aimed at improving athlete performance alongside decreasing injury risk. Our team of certified athletic trainers will take participants through a detailed screen to evaluate range of motion, flexibility and strength. Our clinical exam area features an ACUSON Redwood Diagnostic Ultrasound unit to evaluate various tissues throughout the body. Our team of biomechanists collects kinetic and kinematic data to offer an in-depth look at athlete movement for accurate mechanical breakdown. For the UNO Pitching Lab, data from the force-plate instrumented pitching mound allows for further analysis of lower-extremity mechanics, allowing for further analysis of how force is created and exerted within the pitching motion.

Strength Testing Laboratory
The Strength Testing Lab houses our main strength assessment, the Humac Norm dynamometer. Strength testing on this device can be performed on a wide array of joints and movements to help analyze any pertinent motion to the athlete’s success.
Neuromechanics Laboratory
The Neuromechanics Lab aims to better understand human movement and musculoskeletal injury by starting from its origins in the central nervous system. The lab primarily focuses on evaluating brain function during balance and landing tasks and uses two in-ground AMTI force platforms or two portable AMTI force platforms. We have a 64-channel actiCHamp EEG system for recording cortical activity, as well as several virtual reality headsets for custom stimulus presentation. Our lab also assesses the interplay between cognitive function, vision, and movement. We can evaluate visual-based cognitive tasks with our Reflexion Edge system, providing accurate assessments of reaction time, decision-making, and response inhibition. Our lab also integrates stroboscopic goggles to provide visual perturbations during movement assessments to investigate sensory reweighting.
