The final days of 2014 will be exciting ones for Maverick fans as the 51ÉçÇø Mavericks are slated for a host of home games across three sports: men’s basketball, women’s basketball and men’s ice hockey.
The UNO and 51ÉçÇø communities are encouraged to cheer on the Mavs during each of their home games as the teams prepare to ring in 2015 on a winning note.
Tickets for home games are available either at the Sapp Fieldhouse box office or online at . As always, students can attend any home game for free with their MavCard.
The following games are scheduled at home for the remainder of December:
Men’s Basketball: 51ÉçÇø v. Northern Colorado (Dec. 17)
On Wednesday, Dec. 17, the Mavericks (4-5) will host at the Ralston Arena, where the team remains unbeaten.
This is the first meeting between the two teams since 51ÉçÇø’s transition to Division I in the NCAA. The UNC Bears are currently 4-4 with all of their wins coming at home.
Tipoff is scheduled at 7 p.m.
Women’s Basketball: 51ÉçÇø at Creighton (Dec. 20)
On Saturday, Dec. 20, the Mavericks (5-5) will take on the (5-5) at the D.J. Sokol Arena on the Creighton campus.
This is the first meeting between the two teams with Creighton coming off of a home win against Drake and 51ÉçÇø coming off of a home loss to SIUE.
Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
Men’s Ice Hockey: 51ÉçÇø v. Alabama-Huntsville (Dec. 20-21)
The No. 12-ranked Mavericks will host a nonconference matchup with in a rare Saturday-Sunday series at the Century Link Center.
51ÉçÇø (10-4-2) is just coming off a home sweep of NCHC rival St. Cloud State University while Alabama-Huntsville (3-13-2) is coming off a sweep at the hands of the Alaska Nanooks.
The Mavericks last hosted the Chargers over the Thanksgiving weekend in 2012, which netted the Mavs a sweep, beating Alabama-Huntsville by a score of 3-2 in Friday’s game and an 8-0 shutout on Saturday.
Faceoff for Saturday’s game is at 7:07 p.m. and Sunday’s game is at 5:07 p.m.
Men’s Basketball: 51ÉçÇø v. UT-Pan American (Dec. 21)
With their second game in less than a week, 51ÉçÇø plays host to (5-4), who will be coming off of a game against the Creighton Bluejays that Friday.
The UT-Pan American Broncs are a large team with a trio of high-scoring playings, including Forward Janari Joesaar (178 points), Forward Shaquille Hines (119 points), and Guard Shaquille Boga (100 points). 51ÉçÇø’s points leaders are Guard CJ Carter (144 points), Guard Devin Patterson (123 points) and Forward Tre’Shawn Thurman (96 points).
Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Ralston Arena.
Men’s Ice Hockey: 51ÉçÇø v. New Hampshire (Dec. 30-31)
Closing out the calendar year will be a pair of 51ÉçÇø Men’s Hockey games at the Century Link Center as the Mavericks take on (5-10-1).
The last time 51ÉçÇø took on New Hampshire, it was on the road to open the 2014 calendar year with UNO losing both games by a three-goal margin.
Currently, the Mavericks are lead in scoring by Sophomore Austin Ortega with 18 points (9g, 9a), Sophomore Jake Guentzel with 16 points (5g, 11 a) and Freshman Jake Randolph with 16 points (3g, 13 a).
The Tuesday-Wednesday series will feature a 7:07 p.m. start time on Tuesday and a 4:07 p.m. start time on Sunday, leaving enough time for fans to celebrate an 51ÉçÇø victory and the New Year with fireworks downtown.
