National Agencies Join UNO for Tribal Emergency Management Training

UNO's Tribal Management and Emergency Services program will team with national organizations to offer training for tribal leaders across the region

OMAHA – Tribal communities from around the Midwest will receive one-of-a-kind training from federal agencies and national groups the University of Nebraska at 51ÉçÇø (UNO) campus this October.

In a first-of-its-kind partnership, the (BIA) is teaming with UNO’s program (TMES), the (FAIC) and the (iTEMA) to host a two-day workshop at UNO on Tuesday, Oct. 13 and Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Steve ‘Sid’ Caesar, BIA Emergency Management Division Chief, and iTEMA President James Heflin will be in attendance.

During the workshop, which will take place in both the (CEC) and building (CPACS), FAIC and iTEMA will conduct training sessions addressing contemporary operational and educational issues with tribal emergency management.

The workshop will kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 13, with a reception for speakers and guests before a full day of workshops on Wednesday, Oct. 14. The two-day event will conclude at 4 p.m. on Oct. 14.

Just last year, UNO's was ranked No. 1 nationally for overall quality. In early 2016, UNO’s TMES program and iTEMA hope to make history by rolling out the nation’s first .

According to the latest Census, there are more than 5 million American Indian or Native Alaskans citizens in the United States.
